Underneath his vulgar, screamed lyrics, Calvin Moon is a sensitive, deliberate artist yearning for his parents’ approval. While he develops his new album drawing from his deepest vulnerabilities, pressure to subdue his musical art due to constant rejection from artists’ support programs and negative audience response highlights the stereotypes Calvin faces. At the film’s final performance, with his parents in attendance, will Calvin conform to standards of marketability and acceptability that often kill unique art? Or remain true to his vision, as chaotic and controversial as it may be.
